Roboted Images

Images and robots.txt

Once you are successfully feeding your items to Google, there is a very good chance that you will find a message in your Data Quality page in the Google Merchant Center telling you about "roboted images".

The good news is that this is easily solved. You will find that if you open a browser and type into the address bar www.yourdomain.com/robots.txt you will see a list of the items that your site is currently asking the robots to ignore. Google wants you to remove /images/ from the list. No harm will be done by removing this item.

You will need to use an FTP tool (filezilla is free and very easy to use) and you should be able to easily navigate to your "root" (often seen as wwwroot) and see the file called robots.txt. You can right click and edit the file. Simply remove the line /images/ and save your changes.

Please login to your store's admin console and in the top right corner you will see the phrase "reset cache". Please click that.

Next time you feed Google (and remember, you can always go to your schedule and "fetch now"), the change will be registered. Typically, it still takes Google one or two days to reflect your success, so please be patient.
